Shark Diving
There are two ways to see sharks up close on Oahu. Shark cage tours run off the North Shore, where you stay in a floating cage at the surface with a mask and snorkel, so no diving certification is needed. At Sea Life Park, the Hawaiian reef shark snorkel puts you in a habitat with reef sharks.

Choosing a shark experience on Oahu
- North Shore shark cage tours take you about 3 miles offshore, where Galapagos and sandbar sharks are common. You float in a cage at the surface with a mask and snorkel, so no diving certification is needed. The operator advertises guaranteed sightings; see the tour page for details.
- Sea Life Park’s Hawaiian Reef Shark Snorkel puts you in a habitat with reef sharks on the east coast, which suits younger or more nervous swimmers.
Shark tours leave from Haleiwa on the North Shore, about an hour from Waikiki. If you are prone to seasickness, take medicine before you board. Read our guide to shark cage diving on Oahu, or see scuba diving.
