Hawaiian Night Sky Tours takes you away from the city lights to enjoy the Wonders of the Universe. Enjoy the sunset from a secluded beach; then marvel at the beauty of the night sky and views through the high-power telescope.

Custom Island Tours drives to the North Shore to get away from the city lights. The drive is about one hour.

They try to arrive at the site just before sunset, so you can enjoy watching the sunset from the beach while they set up the telescope equipment.

Custom Island Tours uses an 8-inch diameter Meade telescope on a motorized mount that follows the sky. You can see planets such as Saturn and Jupiter, along with some of their moons. You will see star clusters, galaxies, nebulae, and occasionally a comet. While observing, you will often see satellites and shooting stars. A pointer is used to highlight objects in the sky and the constellations.

The site is dark enough that you can see the Milky Way, and you can even see the Andromeda Galaxy with your naked eye. You will spend about 2 hours looking through the telescope and binoculars.

After the experience, it’s about a 45-minute drive back to Waikiki since there’s no traffic at that time. You usually return to Waikiki around 11:00pm.

There are no facilities at the beach site, but they can make a stop in Haleiwa town to use the restroom before proceeding.

The sunset time varies by over an hour throughout the year, so the pick-up time will vary to ensure arrival just before sunset. Custom Island Tours can provide a cooler with ice and bottled water.

Weather is an important factor. Cloudy conditions make stargazing difficult. The Moon phase is also important—if the Moon is too full, nebulae and galaxies cannot be seen. The best time is from 3 days past Full Moon to about 4 days past New Moon.
